Making of Stop Motions.

To make a stop motion successful several things have to be taken into account, and some sort of plan is needed. The several things that need to be thought about will help make your video look a little more professional, well thought out and make the general video look better.

Just the use of a tripod allows you to make sure that all of the images are the same view and look more thought out. By using a tripod the camera is able to stay in the same position and this will help the pictures flow a lot easier when they are put together to make the stop motion movie. Also by using the tripod the position of the camera and how stable it is gives you couple less things to worry about when making these videos.

Settings on the camera should also remain the same through out the whole shoot of the stop motion so that non of the pictures change only the subject matter changes. If the camera settings were changed this would alter the flow of the video and make it look not thought out and less professional. The ISO should always remain the same as this would alter the video the most, also the focus. Always make sure that the camera is focused on the subject so that the viewer can easily tell what is happening in the video.

When placing the images into software to make the video make sure that all of the pictures fit the screen and each picture does not vary on how they look such as the orientation and how they fir the screen.

All of the these things should be taken into account when making a stop motion video so that the video does not look rushed. By not following these simple tips the stop motion video could look rushed, not thought out and un-professional. The quality should be great even if you think the idea isn't.

Stop motion video

This is the simple stop motion that i created today. This video shows a skateboard going along the step. This is a simple stop motion but also how simple they are easy to make.

Wednesday 28th September

Today we was set a task that involved us going out to take videos of stop motion. We were given equipment such as a tripod and a camera to produce a basic stop motion video. In the time we were given we had to produce 3 stop motions which works out to one each. These stop motions were not produced in the studio they were done out in the open.

2 out of the 3 stop motions we produced used a skateboard but what happens in the video is different in them so they both have there individual qualities. And the other video involved me walking up and down the stairs.

When we had all the images we need to make the short stop motion, we came back into the class room to make them into a small stop motion video. To make this small stop motion video we used software called 'iMovie' this software allows you to simply make all of the still images into a simple stop motion movie.

Studio Equipment

When we went into the studio to learn the basic setup for stop motion we used several pieces of great quality equipment.

Canon 5D - This is a great camera and served it's purpose in this task very well. We were able to take a lot of pictures at one time and fast and the camera made this easy and possaible. This camera combined with the other equipment worked very well and it was not too complicated for us to use for our first time doing something like this with this kind of equipment.

Bowen Studio Lighting - This lighting was linked to our camera so that when the shutter was closed the lights would sense this and add 'flash' to it and this adds a great effect to the images. This lighting is fast, easy to control and set up.

Canbo Studio Stand - This stand was used to get the hight and the right angle needed to take the images. This stand is sturdy and reliable for taking these sort of images.

Altogether these pieces of equipment combined together allowed us to obtain the photographs we need to complete this task. When these pieces of equipment combined it is still easy to use and the final results reflect that these pieces of equipment are top quality and professional.

First idea

My first idea is that it could be a person walking to work/college and they would come across obstacles along their journey, nothing major just things that they might have to walkover and show them objects moving out of the shot. There could be different types of objects and at the end of the walk they could look happy about what they have done.

This would have to be shot inside the studio as i would be needing the hight of the camera stand so that i could shoot it from above to make it look as if the person is actually moving. The movement could come from the background moving across such as the sun and clouds and by moving them it gives the impression that they person is walking along.

Stop Motion

Stop motion photography can both be simple and complex, both of these have there pro's and con's. Professional photographers and people who focus on stop motion would use produce the more complex work as they would have the experience and the know how to make everything look that little more sharp and more professional. The more professional work would be seen on adverts to show products of any genre. The pro's for this are that the final piece would look top quality and that is what the customer and viewer would want to see. The con would be that the time taken to get the movement perfect so that each movement if of the same distance to make the final film look professional and well made.

The more simple stop motion work would be produced by students and first timers. Their work would not look as sharp and professional but it would not lack the creativity and the work put in, just that the movement might not always be correct and as even. But the simple projects can sometimes look the best. The pro's for this is that the final piece would function great and have a great idea but the con to this is that it might not look as professional as the other complex idea produced by the professional. The professional though could also use the simple ideas to make a stop motion film and the students and the first timers would be able to use the more complex ideas but they might struggle to get the same outcome at the end of the project

stop motion.

some of the stop motion video can start to look like animation and that is beyond our skill level. The kind of videos we are going to produce would be moved by hand. You could maybe use a simple animation in the video but we would not be able to produce something that is too complex.
The video below involves animation in the water and this could be too difficult for us to produce.

I like the way that this stop motion involves the making of things and how it involves the person in the background. Also the amount of skill it must of taken to produce this video also the attention span to make the objects that are involved in the stop motion.

The Studio

Today we went into the the studio and had a demonstration on how to simply make a stop motion video, and how to use the equipment in there.
We all worked as a group to make two simple stop motions. The two stop motions we produced one involved someone skateboarding and the other one was someone walking along a path with a suitcase. To produce both of there we all work as a group and the majority had our own individual roles

Stop Motion

Stop motion is a type of animation which is also known as stop action. Stop motion is a technique to make objects seems to move of their own accord. To get the effect the objects is photographed and moved slightly between each photographic to give the impression of it moving on it's own. Clay models can be used in the production of stop motion photography, the use of clay is because the simplicity of being able to remake it looking like it is being moved. A famous example is Wallace and Gromit, the clay models were moved and redesigned to give the impression of movement.

Stop motion is a combination of many photographs, where the object is moved gradually and photographed every time movement has taken place, and when the images have been combined this is when the illusion of something moving on it's own takes place.

Animation

Animation is a quick sequence of still images (2D or 3D) when combined give the impression that movement is taking place. It is an optical illusion of motion, there are several ways of it being created but the most common method of showing animation are motion picture of video program but there are other methods.
This image shows how the ball is slightly moved up each time with a different frame being added each time to make it look like the ball is bounced up and down. When this is put together it will be placed on a loop so that the ball gives the impression that it is moving up and down over and over again.
